Silver and Silks
The Artist

When I found silk painting by (lucky) chance over ten years ago, I was enchanted by the flow of colour over the fabric and so the story started ....

Since then I have completed a Creative Textiles Course at College and continue to explore ideas and techniques inspired by the world around me.

Colour gives me the courage and freedom to express emotions.  Texture builds on this and I love working with silk for its organic qualities and the vibrancy of the dyes.  My work is a journey; changing, evolving over time, inspired by nature and the energy that vibrates around us.

I am also interested in the emotions colour can evoke - blue is cold, or is it calming?  Red is anger or is it warmth? Colours mean very different things to each of us but we cannot ignore our emotional responses.  I often use colour quite simply in order to invite a viewer to examine what it means to them.

Two artists who continue to provide constant inspiration are Georgia O'Keefe and Carolyn Quartermaine.

As well as paintings, I design and make greetings cards, silk scarves and clothing.  Examples of my work appear on the following pages.

I also teach workshops in silk painting both for the complete beginner and those with some experience of the medium.  Further details appear on the Workshops page.
